More than 700 journalists killed worldwide over the last decade.
“More than 700 journalists were killed over the last decade. In other words, every five days, a journalist has lost his life only for what he brought to the public the latest news and information,” said UN Secretary-General.

He noted that many journalists are killed in the conflicts which they cover, others are silenced with violence and in a peaceful environment.

“Reveals only 7% of such crimes,” – said ban Ki-moon.

In this specialist sector of communication and information, UNESCO Marius Lukosiunas reported 827 dead journalists since 2006, reports “Radio UNO”.

He noted that over the past 10 years in an average year at the hands of killers kill more than 80 journalists.

“We see this terrible figure, which shows how many journalists have been killed worldwide is increasing, not decreasing. Only since 2006 have been killed 827 of journalists,” he said.

According to the latest Committee to protect journalists, the first place in the index of impunity for crimes against reporters – conflict areas: Somalia, Iraq and Syria. However, journalists are killed in peacetime. The objects of killing almost 95% of cases in all countries were local journalists who had reported on issues of corruption, problems in government and environmental issues.

We will remind, today in Kiev under the Embassy of the Russian Federation will host a rally in support of Ukrainian journalists detained in Russia.
