The leader of Islamic State in Yemen was killed in a drone strike early on Thursday, residents and officials said.
They said the strike targeted a car in which Jalal Baleedi and two of his aides were travelling in on a road between the towns of Zinjibar and Shaqra in southern Yemen.
A separate drone strike also killed six suspected al-Qaida militants in an overnight attack in eastern Yemen, tribal sources said on Thursday.
The apparent U.S. drone strike targeted a car travelling in al Rawda city in Shabwa province, a remote desert area where al-Qaida militants are believed to be operating. The province has been targeted by drone strikes this year.
