Many players are heroes to their fans, but Chievo striker Riccardo Meggiorini was a real-life hero when saving a woman from her attacker.

The 31-year-old striker was woken up at 2.30am by screams in the street outside his home in Verona.

He looked outside the window and saw a young woman was being beaten and her clothes torn.

Meggiorini told his girlfriend to call the police and rushed downstairs to first attempt to calm the situation, then push the attacker to the ground and pin him until the authorities arrived on the scene.
