Human Rights Defenders of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh conducted fact-finding activities in Mataghis region, Mataghis reservoir area and Alashan region

Human Rights Defenders of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh (Republic of Artsakh) conducted fact-finding activities in Mataghis region, Mataghis reservoir area and Alashan region during his working visit in Nagorno-Karabakh in September 8-11.

By the request of Mr. Arman Tatoyan, the Ombudsman of Nagorno-Karabakh Mr. Ruben Melikyan presented the current results of the fact-finding activity on atrocities committed by Azerbaijani armed forces in April. As a part of their visit the ombudsmen visited Mataghis village and reservoir and conducted joint research.

Targeted attacks by the Azerbaijan armed forces towards Mataghis village and reservoir during the month of April were recorded. The attacks towards the reservoir aimed to cause big losses to the civilians of Nagorno-Karabakh and deprive them of the opportunity to satisfy their vital needs. Such behavior violates international human rights law, including the international humanitarian law.

The Human Rights Defenders of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh have visited the area of Alashan in the region of Martakert where they met with the people who had left their houses in Talish and now live in Alashan because of April attacks committed by Azerbaijan. During the meeting additional information has been collected in regard to the armed attacks, as well as other cruelties, committed by Azerbaijan towards civilians in Talish.

Human Rights Defenders of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh (Republic of Artsakh) draw attention of international organizations to violations against civilians commenced by Azerbaijani armed forces. This information, with appropriate justifications, will be presented to international human rights organizations.
