Maradona wants Pope to conduct his wedding
Diego Armando Maradona, 54, has fixed his wedding with Rocio Oliva for December 13 in Rome and the Argentina legend wants Pope Francis to perform the ceremony.
The Argentina media had been awash with rumours of solemnisation of his union with the 24-year-old and partner of two years, for whom he recently had a facial suggery.
The former Barcelona star had been heavily involved with Veronica Ojeda, but he eventually announced his planned marriage with Rocio following an amicable settlement with the former.
“It will be on December 13, in Rome,” Maradona spoke on Intrusos.
Amid violent quarrels and separations, Maradona has decided to take the plunge the second time, 15 years after divorcing his long-time fiancée Claudia Villafane. The unions produced two daughters, Dalma Nerea (born 2 April 1987) and Giannina Dinorah (born 16 May 1989).
Argentina likes to do things big and the Pope’s involvement makes this much bigger than imagined.
The plan to have to wedding ceremony in Rome and conducted by the Pope himself was revealed in today’s edition of Muy, which claimed that Maradona had already fulfilled a half of his promise to the Pope during his last visit to the Vatican in April.
Maradona was born to a Roman Catholic family. His father Diego Maradona Senior is of Italian origin and his mother, Dalma Salvadora Franco is of Spanish and Croatian origin.
