EU sanctions against Russia are supported by six countries

To extend the anti sanctii the EU was joined by six more countries in Europe. This is stated in the statement of the head of European diplomacy Federica Mogherini,published on the website of the European Union.

In his statement, Mogherini recalled that on 22 June 2015, the Council of Europe expanded existing against Russia measures until 31 January 2016.

«The candidate countries [in the EU] Montenegro and Albania, the countries of the European free trade Association Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, as well as Ukraine align themselves with this decision. They will ensure their compliance with national policy the Council’s decision», — said in a statement. It also notes that the EU welcomes the decision of these countries.

Permanent representatives of the EU agreed to extend sanctions against Russia by six months to end January 31, 2016 in Brussels on 17 June. Five days later the decision was approved at the meeting of foreign Ministers of EU countries.

The EU has linked the extension of sanctions to the incomplete implementation of the Minsk agreements.

In response to these actions Russia has prolonged action food embargo imposed in August last year against Western countries, which supported anti-Russian sanctions. A ban on the importation of a number of products extended for a year until August 2016.
