Car getting stuck: The road going under water twice a day

Passage du Gois is paved over sandbank 4.5 kilometrs in length, This is from one of those routes which connecting the Mainland of France with the island of Noirmoutier. Twice a day, after high tide, the road gets free for movement.

Natural transition between the island and the Mainland at high tide, it was first mentioned on the maps in the year 1701. In 1840, it was built by major road from Boulder. Now the length of the road is 4.5 km away.

The path looks like short one but is considered highly risky. Despite big signs on both sides of the road with the schedule of the tides a lot of people get trapped every year because of the fast-arriving water. For such unfortunates incidence there are rescue towers located where they can wait until the road gets clear for driving.
