A 200lb black bear leapt clean off a wooden patio at a rural Alaskan retreat after being spooked by the boss of the home - a slender house cat only just as big as one of his legs.

Owner Darliss Elliot was on hand with her mobile phone to record the nosy bear jump out his skin when fearless Savannah cat Nani successfully warded him off as he lurked outside the family's home in Eagle River.

The not-so scaredy cat threw herself at the roaming beast - perhaps fully aware she was protected by the glass window on the door which kept the bear outside - leaving him with his tail sufficiently between his legs.

In two quick leaps, the startled animal skids back off the edge of the wooden decking to the rear of the house after being terrified by the territorial defences of the two-year-old lunging cat.

According to Miss Elliot, the bear walked up the property's front driveway before rambling round the back where he met his match on the porch.
