Part IV for Abraham and Stieglitz
The promoters for super middleweight rivals Arthur Abraham and Robert Stieglitz have agreed to terms for the German stars to meet for the fourth time.
Abraham owes a mandatory defense of his 168-pound world title to Stieglitz, and a purse bid was scheduled for Tuesday in Budapest, Hungary. But Chris Meyer of Sauerland Event, Abraham's promoter, and Ulf Steinforth of SES Sport Events, Stieglitz's promoter, made a deal on Wednesday and the WBO announced that it had canceled the purse bid.
There is no date or venue set yet, although Meyer told ESPN.com the fight likely will be in July in Germany.
Abraham (42-4, 28 KOs) and Stieglitz (47-4-1, 27 KOs), a former world titleholder, met for the first time in August 2012, and Abraham won a competitive decision to take the belt. In March 2013 they met in a rematch, and Stieglitz knocked out Abraham in the fourth round to reclaim the title. Bout No. 3 was in March 2014, with Abraham scoring a 12th-round knockdown and winning a dramatic split decision to reclaim the title and set the stage for an eventual fourth meeting.
Stieglitz is coming off a split draw in November with former middleweight titlist Felix Sturm, Germany's other big boxing star. Abraham retained his title in February with a convincing decision win against England's Paul Smith in their rematch.
