Lavrov: Nemtsov killing a 'filthy' crime, will be investigated with utmost vigor

It is blasphemous to use tragedies like the murder of Boris Nemtsov in an attempt to substitute the investigation and suggest politicized interpretations, Russia’s FM said, adding: “This filthy crime will be investigated with the utmost rigor of the law.”

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the murder culprits will not be able to escape justice.

“President Putin made all necessary orders immediately, and they will be very closely monitored,” Lavrov said.

The investigation into opposition leader Boris Nemtsov’s murder comes amid various unverified media reports, as officials warn against speculation before the facts in the case are established.

On Monday morning, Kommersant daily reported that all CCTV cameras installed on the bridge where Nemtsov was killed were inoperable on the night of the murder due to maintenance work being carried out.

However, several hours later the press service of Moscow’s Information Technologies Department said in a statement that all cameras were in fact functioning properly. The statement noted that, as the CCTV cameras are such a sensitive site next to the Kremlin, the data from the cameras goes directly to the Federal Security Service.

“Only they have access to specific video footage,” the press service said.
