Three Balkan countries close airspace to Lavrov’s plane ahead of his visit to Serbia – The Moscow Times

Scheduled for June 6-7 sees Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Serbia was in jeopardy. According to the Serbian newspaper “Vecherniye Novosti” (“Evening News”), Montenegro, North Macedonia and Bulgaria closed their airspace to his aircraft.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Russian Ambassador Aleksandar Bokan-Kharchenko will discuss this issue in Belgrade tomorrow, June 7. The Serbian President had previously warned that difficulties could arise in the course of preparations for the Russian Foreign Minister’s visit.

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic also called the situation with Lavrov’s visit to Serbia “exceptionally difficult.”
     Also, according to the Serbian Prime Minister, Difficulties with the arrival of the Russian minister are connected with the forthcoming visit to Belgrade of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on 10 June.
