Manami Ito – Paralympic swimmer playing violin with her prosthetic arm
It was a traffic accident in November of 2004 that took Manami's right arm. She was studying to become a nurse and her accident forced her to give up on that dream.

However, she was able to go to a facility that helped her with an artificial arm. Since then, she has taken up swimming and returned to her studies again.

Manami is not just your average swimmer. She is a Paralympian. She came in 4th in the 100m Breaststroke at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics and 8th at the 2012 London Paralympics.

She is also the first nurse to have a prosthetic arm in Japan, and tours the country to share her violin performances.

In the video below, she plays Thread by Miyuki Nakajima.

Kazushige Masuda captured her performance on September 2, 2018 at the Takarazuka City General Welfare Center in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan.
