13 policemen killed in Taliban attacks on checkpoints

Thirteen police personnel have been killed in a clash with Taliban militants in the Khanabad district of northeastern Kunduz province, an official said on Sunday.

The district chief, Hayatullah Amiri, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants stormed security checkpoints in Adam Khan area before dawn. He said 13 policemen were killed in the gunbattle.

“A total of 14 policemen guarded the posts but one of them managed to escaped while the rest were killed,” he said, adding the insurgents took away a tank and several weapons.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
