Turkish Troops Enter Kurdish Kobane Canton in Northern Syria

The Turkish forces entered the villages of Bobene and Sifteke at about 18:30 GMT on Sunday, the Kurdish Hawar News agency reported.
Local residents reportedly said that the Turkish servicemen were mining the area.

The Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) warned that it would give a response if the Turkish troops refused to leave the Kobane Canton.

Turkey entered northern Syria in August 2016 starting the operation Euphrates Shield against the Islamic State (IS) terror group, outlawed in Russia. Turkey also considers YPG as a terrorist organization affiliated with the Turkish-based Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Tensions between Ankara and the Kurds escalated in July 2015 when a ceasefire between Turkey and the PKK, which is outlawed in Turkey, collapsed over a series of terror attacks allegedly committed by PKK members.
