The most decorated Olympic athlete in history visited Caesars Windsor to receive this year’s Best Male Swimmer award from Fédération internationale de natation (FINA).

Phelps, 31, took the opportunity to reflect on the end of his competitive career. “It’s kind of wild to think that it is over.”

“I was a kid who wasn’t afraid to dream, and who wasn’t afraid to dream big,” Phelps told the media. “There could be one of those kids out there today. We could see one in the future.”

FINA president Julio Maglione hailed Phelps as “the best swimmer in all the history of swimming,” as well as “an excellent person.”
