Almost half of Russians felt justified sacrifices in the Stalin era

Almost half of Russians (45%) believes that the sacrifices made by the Soviet people during the Stalin era were acquitted great targets and results. This is evidenced by the data of the survey conducted by the Levada center," reports "Interfax".

At the same time, that mass human sacrifice cannot be justified, says 41 percent of respondents.

Ambiguous was the attitude of Russians to the death of Stalin. In 46 percent of the respondents it is associated with the cessation of terror, mass repression, however, 24 percent see it as the loss of a great leader and teacher.

According to sociologists, positive personality of Stalin perceive 39 percent of respondents. Over the past 15 years has become less of those who treat him with hostility and disgust (14 per cent compared to 27 per cent in 2001), and fear (6 percent vs. 16 percent). At the same time increased the number of citizens who Stalin's personality indifferent (30 per cent compared to 12 per cent in 2001).

"Among young every second prevails care about the rating, while older respondents are more likely refers to Stalin with respect. Muscovites are five times more likely than rural residents, experiencing negative complex feelings toward the leader. Wealthy Russians are four times more likely expressed a negative attitude to Stalin than among poor respondents," - said the expert of "Levada-center" Karina Pipia.

Also the attitude to Stalin depends on education of the respondents. Among Russians with less than secondary education 43 percent of respondents experiencing respect to Stalin, among persons with higher education this view is held twice a lesser number of persons.

The survey also showed that more than a third of respondents (37 percent) supported the installation of monuments and memorial plaques to Joseph Stalin. Negatively to the idea of the monuments took 25 per cent of the respondents, 29 percent this question was indifferent.

The survey was conducted March 20-23 among 1,600 people in 46 regions of the country.
