‘No current threat’: Shooting on campus at Southeastern Louisiana University injures two

Two people were injured in a Friday morning shooting at Southeastern Louisiana University, according to a university official.

“The university police department has confirmed an incident occurred overnight on North Campus involving several individuals,” university spokeswoman Tonya Lowentritt wrote in an email Friday. “Gunshots were fired, and two individuals suffered non-life threatening injuries. UPD is following up on all leads, and the incident remains under investigation. There is no present threat to the campus community.”

A fight apparently started at 3 a.m. outside the University Center, where basketball games and other sports events are held. The incident probably involved both students and non-students, Lowentritt said; police are investigating who was involved.

The public university with nearly 15,000 students in Hammond, La., remained open Friday morning.
