Martiros village is famous for more than 700 years of history. The bordering community, that has many historical and cultural assets, since 1990, has been left with dark streets specific to the war time. In frames of the “Alternative Energy” project, collaboratively implemented by the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and VivaCell-MTS, an external lighting system with 52 LED street lights has been installed along 1,716 m long area. VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, FPWC Founder Ruben Khachatryan, head of Zaritap community Simon Babayan and community residents attended the launch of the modern system. The usage of environmental friendly and energy saving LED lamps are cost-effective especially for villages having limited resources of the budget. LED lamps are more productive and can reduce the community's outdoor lighting costs up to 80 %. “Borderland villages remain within the focus of our partners’ and our attention. We do our best to solve the pertaining problems. We often opt for settling those issues on a stage by stage basis to fit the volume of the work to the actual budget. The flexibility of this program allows serving to the needs of our compatriots in various settlements. This year the energy saving system has been implemented in six villages of Vayots Dzor region. The program has embraced two more settlements,” said VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian. The lamps will lighten the streets of Martiros community from 21:00 to 00:00 in summer, and from 18:00 to 23:00 in winter. The village is to be illuminated the whole night during the holidays.
