2016 Volkswagen Tiguan Cloned by Same Company That Copied the Porsche Macan

To say that Volkswagen invested a lot of money to develop the new Tiguan would be an understatement. It's the most important launch of the year and will also play a crucial role in China. However, a company called Zotye has unashamedly copied it.

We are very familiar with Zotye Auto's work. Unlike the folks who copied the Range Rover Evoque, they like to play things safe. Often, they change a few details here and there so the copyright people don't bother them.

The grille is a little different because it's borrowed from the Cross Coupe GTE concept, but everything else is from the Tiguan. The taillights have the same angular 3D design that has just been introduced by Volkswagen. Meanwhile, the interior features the spirit of the Tiguan, but it's been recreated using cheap and colorful materials.

Zotye is a brand that belongs to the Shenyang-Mitsubishi, just so you know. The X7 will be available with three turbocharged engines, starting with a 150 hp 1.5-liter, followed by a 170 hp 1.8-liter and a 190 hp 2.0-liter. Ironically, the 2016 Tiguan will only be available in China with a 1.4-liter TSI making 150 hp, so it's outclassed on paper.

Zotye is well known around the autoevolution office. Last year, they made a hamfisted copy of the Audi Q3 with a sort of Volkswagen grille. But their most offensive SUV was a copy of the Porsche Macan.

Not that it's important, but we are having trouble with the name of the Tiguan ripoff. Some websites are calling it the Damai, but we can see it actually reads Domy X7. Domy - is that short for don't mind me why I copy your stuff?
