They may not even be able to walk yet, but that didn't stop these babies from making a splash in the water.

Lucy Ray from Starfish Underwater Photography has found a remarkable new way to capture images of toddlers at their most playful and pure as they dive down into the deep during their swimming lessons.

The pictures reveal adorable babies as young as three months holding their breath and exploring the underwater world.

Chubby-cheeked, curious, mischievous, and playful, the little ones are all captured in the up-close-and-personal snaps.

Utilising their natural amphibious reflex, these babies held their breath as they were released underwater by professional baby swim instructors.

Lucy's photographs show the hilarious expressions on the faces of the little swimmers.

One little one, Esther, seven months old, can be seen cheekily sticking her tongue out at Lucy as she is captured at Little Splashers Swim School at Cookridge Hall, Leeds.

Meanwhile, Sophia, four months old, pulls her best model poses as she is snapped at an underwater photoshoot at Hydro at the Barn in Lancashire.

Expressive Rose, 7 months old, looks startled as she opens her eyes for the first time at an underwater photo shoot with Aquatots Swim School in Cheltenham.

According to the company's website, Lucy is an award-winning professional photographer, specialising in underwater photography.

Lucy began taken pictures underwater after qualifying as a BSAC Scuba Diver in 2001 and she's also got post-graduate qualifications in Photo-journalism.

Lucy says her second favourite thing to photograph is primates and monkeys - but wishes they would go underwater.

She is currently based in London, but travels all around the country - and the world - for photoshoots.

When she is not taking pictures underwater, Lucy enjoys spending time with her cat, Mimi, and photographing wildlife
