The first wife of Fidel Castro, Mirta Díaz-Balart, died at the age of 95. "A great woman has left us," wrote her grandson Fidel Antonio Castro Smirnov on X. The daughter of a Cuban politician, who studied philosophy at the University of Havana, married the later Cuban Revolution leader in 1948. A year later, their common son Fidel Castro Díaz-Balart, known as "Fidelito," was born. Seven years later, the marriage was divorced.
