Three conditions for peace – Netanyahu
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has outlined three conditions for peace as an alternative to the current war against Hamas.
The three conditions are “destroy Hamas, demilitarize Gaza and deradicalise the Palestinian society,” said Netanyahu in an op-ed piece entitled Our three prerequisites for peace that was published in Wall Street Journal.
He accused Hamas as being “a key Iranian proxy that must be destroyed”. He also justified his call for Hamas’ destruction.
“Its military capabilities must be dismantled and its political rule over Gaza must end. Hamas leaders have vowed to repeat the Oct 7 massacre “again and again”.
“That is why their destruction is the only proportional response to prevent the repeat of such horrific atrocities,” he said in the article.
On the call to demilitarize Gaza, he stated that Israel must ensure Gaza is “never again used as a base to attack” Israel.
“Among other things, this will require establishing a temporary security zone on the perimeter of Gaza and an inspection mechanism on the border between Gaza and Egypt that meets Israel’s security needs and prevents smuggling of weapons into the territory,” he wrote.
Netanyahu added “expectation that the Palestinian Authority will demilitarize Gaza is a pipe dream” because “PA currently funds and glorifies terrorism in Judea and Samaria and educates Palestinian children to seek the destruction of Israel.”
