Russia-Turkey Joint Military Patrol Pelted with Stones in Syria

Local media filmed angry Kurdish locals pelting a Russian-Turkish military convoy on patrol near the Syrian town of Kobani, Tuesday, November 5.

The protesters chanted slogans against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and in support of Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or the PKK.

The PKK, which Ankara views as a terrorist group, has led an armed struggle against Turkey for 40 years.

The protests came as Turkish and Russian troops conducted their second joint patrol in northeastern Syria. Turkey and Russia agreed last month to hold the patrols at a depth of 10 kilometers from the border to create a so-called safe zone from Kurdish fighters.
