Honduras plane crash – at least six injured as jet crashes in Tegucigalpa

Photos show a white Gulfstream jet broken in half after the jet skidded off the runaway at Toncontin International Airport, in the south of Tegucigalpa.

The deputy head of the Permanent Contingency Commission (Copeco), Carlos Cordero, told local media that at least six people were transferred to the state Hospital Escuela.

Mr Cordero added the commercial aircraft from Austin, Texas slipped from the Toncontín airport runway during landing and fell into a small abyss where it split in two over a highway.

The plane took off from Austin, Texas earlier today and it is belived the passengers who were injured in the crash are American.

Meanwhile, Federal Aviation Administration records show the plane registered is TVPX Aircraft Solutions Inc. in North Salt Lake, Utah, the Washington Post reports.

Tegucigalpa’s airport is notoriously known as one of the more difficult approaches for pilots, surrounded by mountaintops and residential neighbourhoods.
