An actor has been “accidentally” shot dead during the filming of a music video for a hip hop band in Australia.

Police said the man was in his 20s and was shot in the chest during filming at a bar in the city of Brisbane.

The managers of Australian hip hop group Bliss n Eso later confirmed that the video was being filmed for the band.

“The band were not on site at the time. The video production crew and our team are currently working with the police in their investigation and we are unable to provide further comment at this time."

The Sydney-based band group is one of the nation’s most successful hip hop artists and has had two number one albums.

It is believed the video was for a new song called “Friend Like You” from the band’s next album, which is due to be released in March.

Police are investigating but believe the shooting was “accidental” and have described it as a workplace incident.

Queensland police detective inspector Tom Armitt said several firearms were used during the shooting of the scene.

"We do not know specifically how those injuries occurred at this point in time,” he told reporters.

"I can't tell you whether they're live or real firearms, I can't tell you the type of ammunition that were being used. The deceased person was an actor in the scene. No other actors were injured, no other persons who were present were injured."

Brooklyn Standard, the bar where the shooting occurred, was closed to the public and had been rented out for the filming of the video.
