The journalist was arrested in Diyarbakir – the biggest city in the mainly Kurdish Southeast of Turkey

Freelance reporter for “voice of America” Hadidian Parkin was detained by Turkish authorities in Diyarbakir.

Details of her arrest on Saturday, was handed to a family friend, who said that the reasons for the detention remain unclear Parkin. Her family said that because of the state of emergency declared in the area, even her lawyer could not contact her for five days.

In Turkey, where state of emergency was declared after a failed attempt of a military coup on 15 July, was arrested dozens of journalists.

At the end of last month, several thousand people protested in Diyarbakir after the removal from office and arrest on terrorism charges of mayors of the city of Sultana Kisanak and Firat Anli. Diyarbakir, the largest city in mainly Kurdish Southeast Turkey, is the center of the Pro-Kurdish movement
