This is stated in the annual report of the preliminary investigation of the ICC Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, disclosed on 14 November, reported Ukrainian news.

“According to sources, the situation on the territory of Crimea and Sevastopol, equivalent to the international armed conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. The international armed conflict began no later than February 26, when the Russian Federation has mobilized the personnel of their armed forces to gain control over parts of Ukraine without the consent of the government of Ukraine”, – the report says.

The law of international armed conflict apply to the situation and after March 18, 2014 in the extent to which the events in the Crimea and Sevastopol will amount to an ongoing state of occupation.

According to the court, of ascertaining the legality of the initial intervention, which resulted in the occupation, not required.

Thus, this international conflict may be investigated according to the norms of the Rome Statute.
