Sony’s adaptation of the video game Uncharted is back on course.

Shawn Levy, the Night at the Museum director who executive produced and directed episodes of Stranger Things, is coming on board to helm Uncharted.

Levy becomes the latest helmer on the long-gestating project that has seen Seth Gordon, David O. Russell and Neil Burger warm up the director’s chair only to leave after the heavy development process set in.

This time, Sony is armed with a script by Joe Carnahan, who was flirting with directing but is now focused on the third Bad Boys installment, titled Bad Boys for Life.

Avi Arad, Charles Roven, Alex Gartner and Ari Arad are producing.

The video game centers on a treasure hunter named Nate Drake — a descendent of explorer Sir Francis Drake — who believes he has learned the whereabouts of the fabled golden South American city El Dorado from a cursed statue. His search for El Dorado becomes competitive when a rival hunter joins the fray, and then is racheted up several notches when creatures — actually mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis — begin attacking those hoping to learn the treasure's true secrets.

Levy, who also directed such movies as Real Steel, is prepping for season two of Netflix's Stranger Things, where he will once again helm several of the episodes, along with Matt and Ross Duffer. Levy also is a producer on Arrival, the upcoming sci-fi movie starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner.
