We announced it last year: green cards would make their debut in Italy and reward players who showed fair play. Well this project is now a reality: the first green card was distributed this weekend in Serie B.
As stated on the website Serie B News, referee Marco Mainardi showed it to Cristian Galano, during the match between Virtus Entella and Vicenza.
Picture this: at the 53rd minute, the referee awarded a corner to Vicenza. Galano admitted that the defender had not touched the ball and the corner was transmuted into a goal kick. Now that’s proper play.
