The 2018 European Senior Weightlifting Championships will take place between March 23 – April 1 in Bucharest, Romania according to European Weightlifting Federation (EWF). Let us remind that the 2018 Senior Weightlifting Championships was to be held between March 23 – April 1 in Tirana, Albania, however the host country was changed because of doping- related issues. It is important to note that the question of Armenian Weightlifting team’s participation in the European Championships remains pending. On September 30, 2017 IWF announced the Armenian Federation to be disqualified for one year for anti-doping rule violations. The ineligibility period of our team is completed on October 19, 2018. During the closing press conference of 2017 the chief secretary of the Armenian Weightlifting Federation and the head coach of men’s weightlifting team Pashik Alaverdyan announced that three countries – Armenia, China and Turkey would probably be punished for six months or less and as a result the Armenian team would be able to participate in Europe Championships. However, no news is available concerning the matter and our team will most likely miss the championships.
