John Allen sentenced to death for 2011 murder of Ame Deal

A Phoenix man has been sentenced to death for the 2011 murder of a 10-year-old girl, according to the Associated Press.

Jurors in Maricopa County Superior Court deliberated for only a few hours Thursday before deciding that John Allen should get the death penalty.Allen, 29, was convicted of first-degree murder and child abuse last week in the death of Ame Deal, who was locked in a small storage box overnight in sweltering summer heat. The jury previously determined that Ame Deal's death was especially cruel or heinous.

Allen's 28-year-old wife was a cousin of Deal's. Sammantha Allen was convicted of murder in the girl's death in June.
